A one-night getaway to a stone desert.

So far but also so close to the Sahara.

Marrakech is a fascinating city only a few hours from main European capitals and offers you a total change of scenery and an exceptionally laid back lifestyle. Its traditional medina is full of life, perfumes, spices and colours and a friendly population that contrasts with the modern district of GUELIZ which is abuzz with a wide range of fashion, food & fun venues. But the most beautiful asset of Marrakech remains its surroundings. Indeed, within roughly 30 miles of Marrakech nature unleashes dazzling spectacles of open landscapes, full of life and rich in emotions. The Atlas Mountains, luxuriant and refreshing, offer an immediate contrast with the Agafay desert. In a few hours drive, you can go from palmtrees and cactus to firs and winter snows!

The Agafay Desert displays rolling hills framed only by the High Atlas and Anti Atlas mountain ranges, and enjoys an amazing micro climate with conditions similar to those in the mighty Sahara. Here there are no sand dunes but a very soft rocky relief of stunning landscapes, ever changing under the unblinking light of the sun, with winter views of snow-capped peaks including Toubkal, the highest peak in North Africa at 4167m and ‘roof of the sky’ in Ancient Greece. All this only 27 miles from Marrakech!

It is in this magical setting that we have set up Agafay Desert Camp. On 25 acres of land, with a day restaurant for outside guests and, tucked away from the rest of the world, the bivouac tented camp, we are delighted to share with you the unique experience of a night in the desert. With a total of 10 tents of 300sqf each, all with king size bed, living room and separate bathroom with hot shower and toilet, the camp remains intimate and provides ample space for everyone to realise their dream of sleeping in the desert.

The camp was carefully equipped and decorated by Vincent Jaquet and was conceived with love as a real invitation to travel. The theme of exploration is richly represented and materials used were carefully selected objects of everyday life in Morocco transformed with master craftsmen in to unique pieces dotted throughout the camp. Vincent has collected many wonderful items made of wood, iron, rocks pebbles and decorated Ghazala Desert Camp in a wide variety of shades of brown

We recommend you spend two nights to fully appreciate this desert environment. Enjoy many on-site activities such as walks, dromedary or horse riding, quad biking, trekking, or enjoy lunch with locals. We are 10 miles from Lake Takerkoust where water activities such as canoeing & Kayaking, stand up paddle, jet skiing, hoverboard and pool lunches are available.

You will be amazed by our wellness area which offers traditional hammam and oriental wellness on site, with relaxing or invigorating massages and delicate facial care. Our beauticians use only the finest Argan oil, Barbary figs and ancestral wellness practices of Moroccan women. Indulge, relax & enjoy.
